Understanding EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a proven, research-backed therapy that helps people recover from traumatic events, disturbing experiences, and chronic anxiety.
Â
Following a distressing event, our minds sometimes struggle to make sense of what happened. These memories remain unfiled, leaving us feeling "frozen" in the past or easily triggered by everyday stressors.
How EMDR Works
Using bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements, gentle tapping, or auditory tones—EMDR helps re-engage your brain’s natural ability to process information. This gentle dual-attention focus allows your brain to digest stuck memories, peeling back the intense emotional charge and physical distress attached to them.
Shifting Beliefs and Restoring Control
Trauma isn't just about what happened; it’s about the negative beliefs we form about ourselves in the aftermath—like "I am unsafe," "I am helpless," or "It was my fault." EMDR helps untangle these core beliefs, replacing them with adaptive, grounded truths.

You won't forget what happened, but the memory loses its power over your present life.Â

EMDR can be conducted as a primary treatment or as an adjunct to your ongoing therapy, and I am happy to collaborate with your existing provider to support your care.
